Show secretary’s report – SKC Championship Show 19th May 2018

SKC Championship Show 19th May 2018

Show Report

Special thanks to my wife Jean as well as, Hazel, Dave, Margo and Sandra as they were my support team throughout the day as well as in the run up to the show I could not have done it without them.

We arrived at the venue on Thursday to have a final walk through of the areas where the show was going to be held all was looking good, signs all up to ensure the areas were kept clean prior to show day. Friday afternoon was spent marking out and setting up the rings, this involved a lot of hard work as we could not use the traditional ring poles. Thankfully the weather was kind to us during this time; and the same on the Saturday.

Saturday was an early start as the show opened at the new time of 8.30am. A huge thanks to Sandra and Margo for arriving extra early to undertake their booking in duties. As the competitors and judges began to arrive my team were on hand to ensure everyone knew where everything was and that they had everything they needed. Throughout the day we had some really high temperatures and we continued to supply judges, stewards and dogs with water and refreshments.

Thank you to Dave for undertaking the role of Chief Stay Steward and to all that helped with stays throughout the day. The judges were provided with a choice for lunch either the catering van or the Highland Hall for a sit down lunch, both options went down well so everyone returned after lunch happy and ready to continue with their appointments. Once they had completed their appointments they were treated to some fantastic cakes made by Bell (Thank You) and a lovely gift from SKC.

This is the first year we had YKC, KCGCDS, and Introductory classes running these were all well supported and we intend to run them again next year. We moved the SKC Beginners Final to our May show this year, again this was well supported and we had a lot of enquiries regarding what this class was all about so hopefully we will have a few more clubs hosting heats to help encourage new people into our sport. Watch out for the heat invitations either in the post or being handed out at shows in the coming weeks.

To the judges and ring parties thank you all for giving up your day to allow others to compete; we hope you enjoyed it.

Finally a massive thank you to all the competitors for entering our show and making it a success and to those that took the time to compliment our hard work as this is greatly appreciated.

We hope to see you all in 2019,

Franny & Jean Herron
